University leaders are considering several different scenarios for the spring 2021 commencement ceremonies. In all cases the health and safety of our communities is our guiding principle. At this time we can confirm the dates for the ceremonies. Specific details, including the ceremony format, will be shared later. We appreciate your patience as we all continue to navigate this challenging time.
May 7-8 and May 14, 2021: Master's Degree, Educational Specialists, Doctoral Degree (PhD), and Medical Degrees will take place May 7-8. Law Degree Ceremonies will take place May 14. Specific dates and times will be posted soon.

INSTRUCTIONS TO DEGREE CANDIDATES
1. Apply to graduate on the Office of the Registrar's Website: https://reg.msu.edu/StuForms/GradApp/GradApp.aspx on or before the end of the first week of the semester you expect to complete your degree requirements. This will assure your name is included in the commencement program.
2. Arrange for your cap and gown.
Arrange for your cap and gown with the MSU Official Graduation Store, the Spartan Spirit Shop.

DOCTORAL DEGREE CANDIDATES wear tassels on the LEFT
Candidates rise at the invitation of the Dean of The Graduate School. The Dean directs hooding of candidates. Candidates are hooded at their seats by their family or friend. The President confers the degree.
MASTER’S DEGREE CANDIDATES wear tassels on the RIGHT
Master’s Degree candidates rise at the invitation of the Dean of your College. The President confers the Master’s Degrees en masse and invites the Master’s Degrees to shift tassels from right to left.
Graduates - your diplomas will be mailed approximately one month after the end of the semester of your graduation.
