All Michigan State University degree candidates who attend the commencement ceremony are recognized individually for their academic achievement. Many degree candidates and their families and friends participate. Commencement is a joyous occasion. Thank you for joining us.

COMMENCEMENT SPEAKERS AND HONORARY DEGREES

Spring Convocation for graduating seniors is Friday, May 5, 1:00 p.m.

Former MSU Football All-American and Detroit Tigers legend Kirk Gibson, founder of the Kirk Gibson Foundation to raise awareness and search of new treatments for Parkinson's disease, will be the keynote speaker and receive an honorary doctorate of humanities.

MSU Physics alumna Susan Avery, an atmospheric physicist, and president emerita of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, will receive an honorary doctorate of science.

Joon-shik Shin, chairperson and founder of Jaseng Hospital of Korean Medicine will receive an honorary doctorate of science.

Advanced Degree Commencement Ceremony, Friday, May 5, 3:30 p.m.

An influential leader in the world of nonprofit investment, Darren Walker, president of the Ford Foundation, will be the keynote speaker and receive an honorary doctorate of humanities.

Dermot Desmond, chairperson of International Investment and Underwriting in Dublin, Ireland, and chairperson of RESPECT, a charity raising funds to develop services with intellectual and physical disabilities, will receive an honorary doctorate of humanities.
